All reproductions are printed to superior standards on quality paper stocks are 80-100 lb. weight. The edges of the paper can be torn to simulate a deckle and can be exposed in framing. All posters are published in open editions. Dimensions given are of the image size; most have a white border of 1-3″.

    This is a distinctly Pueblo image from Acoma ("Sky City") located just west of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The women are wearing traditional woven mantas, some with embroidered borders. Acoma is renowned for its fine quality thin-walled pottery. 26" x 37 1/8" (66cm x 95cm)

    104 – Haida Patterns


    The Haida people live on the west coast of Canada and Northwestern USA. They, along with the Kwakiutl and Tlingit are 'famous world-wide for their totems, wood canoes, and longhouses with stylised interpretations of mythical figures. Their wonderful basket hats are often fashioned from split spruce roots. The height of the hat reflects the social status of the bearer. 35.75" x 25.75"

    105 – Chief Patterns


    These bold blanket designs are known as Chief Patterns and are woven by the Navajo of Arizona and New Mexico. They typically have strong black and white horizontal stripes interrupted in 9 points by a geometric coloured pattern. These are at the top and bottom comers and the midpoint in between on each side, then at the top, middle, and bottom on the centreline. The patterns are halved on the edges of the blanket and are made complete when the wearer draws the two edges together as the blanket is wrapped around the body. 13.5" x 39.75"

    109 – West Coast Dreaming


    The classic Hudson Bay blanket is at the centre. It became the quintessential North American trade blanket. Trade blankets were often embellished with appliqued and beads. The Haida and Kwakiutl would transform the more plain blankets with the addition of buttons outlining traditional designs. 24.25" x 7.75"

    The blankets feature classic Navajo designs taken from those found in several museum collections in the American southwest. Navajo lands are in NE Arizona and NW New Mexico. The desert landscape throbs with warm colours --- ochres, yellows and reds. The original painting was done in November at the time of the full Moon. 24.25" x 9.75"

    All ages gather together and share the experience of watching their stories retold. Winter ceremonies might include the bird/creature masks in Hamatsa dance such as the Raven and Crooked-Beak. These masks feature hinged mandibles. Kwakiutl potlatch ceremonies can only be held with a tremendous amount of help and cooperation from the entire village. Guests might number in the hundreds and ceremonies can last from 24 hours to well over a week. The brown borders are representative of the sides of the classic bentwood box. The lid is embellished with discs of mother-of-pearl. 24.75" x 16 "
